Clashes in Kashmir After Friday Prayers
Clashes broke out in parts of Srinagar, in Indian-administered Kashmir, following Friday prayers.
Angry protesters threw stones at Indian security forces while chanting freedom slogans.
Indian security forces responded with tear gas.
The situation in the region has remained tense since August 5. That’s when Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist-led government revoked Muslim-majority Kashmir's decades-old special status guaranteed under Article 370 of India's Constitution and sent thousands of troops to the region. It is split between archrivals Pakistan and India, and claimed by both in its entirety. (AP)
